MovieReviewIntelligence.com Publication List, 2010

MovieReviewIntelligence.com covers over 70 publications, NPR and "At the Movies" television program. Each publication's and program's web site is covered as well. Three of the publications are Canadian (Toronto Star, Toronto Globe & Mail and Toronto Now). La Opinion, the leading Spanish-language newspaper in the U.S., is included. There are four online-only publications (RogerEbert.com, AVClub.com, Cinema24/7.com and ReelViews.net).

The number of publications is actually greater than 70 because several entities represent multiple publications: the Associated Press, whose reviews are published in scores of newspapers and web sites across the country (AP critics are Christy Lemire, David Germain and Jake Coyle), and the Village Voice and LA Weekly, both of which are published by Voice Media and whose reviews are printed in at least 16 alternative weeklies in the leading U.S. city-markets (critics include Scott Foundas, J. Hoberman, Michelle Orange, Nick Pinkerton, Jim Ridley, Ella Taylor, Robert Wilonsky, and Chuck Wilson, et. al.). The statistical model that generates the figures on this web site takes into account the AP's and Voice Media's size; they are weighted up.  Counting all AP and Voice Media publications, this web site covers well over 100 publications, sometimes more for certain movies.

Because independent movies sometimes open in one or several of these cities before expanding to more cities, the following publications are looked at separately. In this category, each city’s publications are weighted within the city, and then the cities are weighted by their size, so that New York’s preponderance of newspapers does not dominate the overall mix.
